Art in the Park: Coronado

By  |

If you’re ever looking for something fun to do outdoors on a Sunday, consider Art in the Park at Spreckels Park in Coronado Village. The event occurs on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of every month from 9am to 4pm. Art in the Park features more than fifty top artists in every genre including oil, acrylic and watercolor painting, etching, photography, wood and metal working, stained glass, ceramics and a variety of other unusual and distinctive art forms.

The artists whose work is on display reside throughout San Diego County. They have been selected by a five person jurying process to insure consistent professional quality and originality. Many are represented in galleries and specialty shops throughout the San Diego area. Some have their own gallery/studios.

Artists include John Yato, a very well-known and versatile artist. He is perhaps best known for the realistic style of his California landmark paintings. His subject matter is also varied, ranging from scenes of his home city to architecture, wildlife, landscapes, figures and seascapes. Jean Pierre Marques will also have art on display. Marques’ use of color is unique and exquisite. He has developed an amazing and enduring system of combining bright colors with dark hues, warm with cool. The artist says his paintings show us how it’s possible for the world, with all its differences, to be in perfect harmony with each other and the universe.

Other artists include Uwe Werner, photographers Bruce Muirhead and Ronald T. Bennett, and Robert Gerdes, to name a few.

Participating artists show their work at Art in the Park to enjoy the direct interaction with the art buying public and those who want to stop by to admire their work. The artists must show their own work, so you are assured of the opportunity to converse with the actual creator of any art piece on display. This is a unique opportunity to connect with your favorite artists on a personal level and shake the hands of those who crafted the art you love.
