Hop Con 5.0 at Stone Brewery

On July 19th, Stone Brewing Company will host its 5th Hop Con. If you love beer and comic book geekery, this offsite Comic Con event is perfect for you! Every year, the event draws a big crowd of geeks and beer enthusiasts, and the quinquennial celebration will include a blast from the past with the best drafts, collaborations & creations from Hop-Cons of yesteryear! There will also be three custom casks of this year’s Drew Curtis / Wil Wheaton / Greg Koch Stone Farking Wheaton w00tstout! A new, special batch of w00tstout is created each year specifically for this event, and beer lovers everywhere wait patiently for its release. Attendees will spend the night sipping on beer (including all five w00tstouts), playing bocce, Jenga, and “fabricated beer barrel games”.

The bottle art this year is created by Walt Simonson, a renowned comic book writer and artist, best known for a run on Marvel Comics’ Thor from 1983 to 1987, during which he created the character Beta Ray Bill. He has also worked on other Marvel titles such as X-Factor and Fantastic Four. Needless to say, the bottle art alone is reason for the Comic Con crowd to try some tasty brews.

Lithographs can be purchased for $20 during the event. There will also be a very limited number of previous years’ artwork for sale. ALL proceeds go back to comic artists from yesteryear! The event starts at 7pm at Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens at Liberty Station. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased here.
