Owl Drug Company Social Eating House Opens in Gaslamp

By  |

San Diego’s newest neighborhood eatery is officially open on the Northeast corner of 6th Street and Broadway Ave. It’s name is a mouthful – Owl Drug Company Social Eating House – and the delicious new menu will keep you coming back for more.

With homage to the building’s history, the brew pub takes its inspiration from the former drug store that occupies the space. Built in 1908 and designated a Historical Building in 2001, the structure was dubbed the Colonel Fletcher Building after California State Senator, Colonel Ed Fletcher. The first floor was originally home to an apothecary, bowling lanes, and a cafe. Now, Owl Drug Co Social Eating House has souring ceilings, a small stage for karaoke, and a bright, open design. Head up the stairs to discover an additional space with dark wood, leather armchairs, and table games.

Carefully crafted pub food accompanies craft cocktails and beer from their own 15 barrel brewery. Highlights include their Short Rib Pizza, made in their wood fire oven and topped with incredibly flavorful short rib along with Tomatillo sauce, gouda, pickled onion, and cilantro. The short rib was so good I will definitely be going back to try some of their other short rib options – Short Rib Sliders and Short Rib Fries. To start, the Fried Pickles were delicious, served with horseradish aioli. To drink, the prickly pear margarita is a standout, perfectly balanced with sweet and tart.

Owl Drug Co. is located at 602 Broadway Ave, San Diego 92101.
