Must-Try Dishes for Vegetarian Month
October is vegetarian month is in full swing, and if you’ve ever given some thought about going vegetarian, now is the time to try it out. A vegetarian diet provides a variety of health benefits, not to mention it being the most eco-conscious choice for the environment. With plenty of stellar vegetarian-friendly spots around San Diego, here are the delicious dishes we think you should try.
barleymash
A favorite spot for locals and the after-work crowd with a menu featuring flatbreads, oven-roasted wings, and more. In the spirit of Vegetarian Month, try going for their Farmhouse dish, a hearty bowl of roasted spaghetti squash, zucchini, tri-color cauliflower, toasted quinoa, roasted tomato sauce, and cilantro pesto, with a side of herb focaccia.
Union Gaslamp
Vegetarian dishes are often made with creative ingredients, as is evident with the meat-alternative BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich at Union Gaslamp. This tasty creation features braised jackfruit, smoked cherry BBQ, baby kale slaw and crispy sweet potato, on caramelized onion bread.
Woodstock’s Pizza
When it comes to pizza, it’s great whether it’s vegetarian or not. Luckily, at Woodstock’s, you can get some seriously delicious vegetarian-friendly pizza. The Grateful Veg is piled high with sliced bell peppers, white onions, fresh tomatoes, black olives, and mushrooms.
City Taco’s
Who said a taco needed meat to be delicious? At City Taco’s, try their Portobello & Vegetables Taco, combining grilled portobello mushrooms with corn, black beans, pasilla chiles, arugula, and tomato over melted Oaxaca cheese with a cilantro serrano chili aioli.
Pacific Beach AleHouse
To accompany one of their many award-winning brews, try out the Vegan Bolognese. A hearty meal filled with Impossible Meat, tomato sauce, garlic, oregano, root veg hash, red pepper flakes, fettuccine, and cashew parmesan.
Monzu Fresh Pasta
With the release of their seasonal menu, Monzu has announced two vegetarian-friendly dishes and a nice light salad into the mix. The Vegan Bolognese Tagliatelle is a classic dish made with Beyond Meat. The Linguine Alla Puttanesca is a nice Italian dish with a tomato-based red sauce with Italian olives and capers. The Bufala Salad is a light fare made with mixed greens, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP, sun-dried tomatoes, Castelvetrano olives, artichokes, and EVOO.
Ponce’s Mexican Restaurant
Finally joining the vegetarian hype, you can now get your tacos, burritos, and enchiladas made with Impossible and Beyond Meat plant-based proteins.
International Smoke
Proving vegetarian dishes don’t need to skimp on flavor, International Smoke has three new dishes for the month. Try their Whole-Roasted Cauliflower– served with tehina, golden raisins, za’atar and pistachio. The Mama Mina’s Falafel is served with hummus, cucumber, endive crudité and tomato jam. Another great dish is the Stehly Farms Avocado which is topped with marinated jicama, garlic crumble and Calabrian chili hot sauce.
