Brunch Spots to Get Your New Year Started Right
Brunch, the best meal of the day, and favorite of millenials and older generations alike. San Diego has some fantastic brunch spots all throughout the city. So get ready to fill up on bottomless mimosas and some tasty food, and go check out some of the following brunch spots.
If you ask any local food critic, and they’ll usually tell you about this place. This cafe has a French/Euro vibe, that serves up some truly delectable dishes. Some of their most popular include a creamy macaroni and pancetta gratin, as well as a pretty fantastic ham and gruyere sandwich. The cafe is located in a quaint and cozy urban neighborhood in East Village, where you can enjoy your brunch outside on their sidewalk patio. In addition to their food, they serve up gourmet coffee, tea, and rare boutique wines. Brunch is only available on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so keep that in mind if you’re looking to go out for brunch.
Located in the historic Gaslamp District and in Normal Heights, Cafe 21 is one of the best brunch spots in this city, and my personal favorite. They serve up brunch every day of the week, and the portions are perfect, leaving you completely satisfied. They are a leader in providing ingredients sourced from only sustainable farming and locally grown vendors. If you’re gluten free or vegan, they have some great options for you too. The omelettes there are served in a cast iron skillet piping hot, and come with some of the fresh tasting ingredients you’ll ever taste. The pancakes are also to die for, but then again, so is the whole menu.
This brunch spot is located on the top of the newly designed La Plaza center in La Jolla. This restaurant is operated by Arturo Kassel, owner of Whisknladle Hospitality, which operates other restaurants in San Diego. Catania is center around providing its guests with authentic Italian cuisine with a coastal twist. This is perfectly accented by the breathtaking elevated panoramic ocean views. Executive Chef Karagheusian handmakes all pastas and pizzas, and utilizes a massive wood burning oven to give your meal such an authentic flavor profile. Be sure to check out the Margherita Pizza or one of the house made pastas.
Located on Shelter Island, this restaurant provides some of the best views in all of San Diego, with the dining room overlooking the waterfront bay. For a long time, Humphreys has upheld the connection between San Diego culture and authentic and fresh southern California cuisine. Known for providing modern California flavors with globally inspired flavors, all sourced from local and seasonal produce. Brunch is served from 10 AM to 2 PM, and reservations are suggested. Some of the food available include Belgian waffles, eggs benedict, custom omelets, apple wood smoked bacon, potatoes au gratin, fruit, and a wide selection of in-house selected pastries. In addition, check out their coastal foods like snow crab legs, oysters, shrimp cocktail, ceviche, baked fish, and more.
