Phil’s BBQ – Multiple locations
Phil’s is one of the OG names in San Diego barbecue for good reason. Serving everything from Baby Back Ribs to their infamous Broham Pulled Pork sandwich, Phil’s has it all for even the most dedicated barbecue fan. Plus, the signature sauce is to die for, with the perfect amount of smokiness with a hint of a kick of spice.
Felix’s BBQ with Soul – Carlsbad & Oceanside
If you’re looking for authentic southern soul barbecue, Felix’s is the spot to be. Upon being seated, you’ll be welcomed with a basket of steaming hot corn bread – a staple of any good southern barbecue joint. Meats are carefully seasoned and smoked, and the menu has plenty of the necessary side fixins’, like red beans with rice, black-eyed peas, mac ‘n’ cheese, and collard greens.
Coaster Saloon – Mission Beach
Situated near Belmont Park, Coaster Saloon knows a thing or to about making genuine Texas-style barbecue. The oak smoked meats are practically bursting at the seams with rich smoky flavors. If you can’t decide between the brisket, pulled pork, and chicken, then order the famous Saloon Sampler and go to BBQ town. With plenty of flat screens around and more than 40 beers on tap, this makes for the perfect place to get your sports and barbecue fix.
Lil Alex BBQ – Bonita
This small barbecue establishment may be unassuming on the outside, but boy does it serve up some damn fine BBQ. Lil Alex specializes in mesquite-grilled meats, with some of the best ribs in San Diego. The beef bone is an exceptionally tender and juicy rib that is sprinkled with a mild rib and doused in a smoky-sweet sauce with a signature kick.
Cali Comfort BBQ – Spring Valley
Known for having a welcoming village atmosphere, Cali Comfort BBQ is the perfect spot to gather with friends and enjoy some good ol’ BBQ. Husband and wife, Shawn and Rositsa Walchef have created a place that pulls together that small-town feel with plenty of big-time flavors. Cali Comfort is known by the locals for the slow-cooked tri-tip that practically melts in your mouth. Each meal is complemented with generous helpings, and all meats are cooked after being seasoned with Cali Dry rubs in their Ole Hickory Smoker with select cooking woods.
