The Tall Tale of ‘Little Women’
Join the remarkable March sisters – Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy – as Center Stage Productions presents one of the first local productions of Little Women. A North County youth theater group, CSP performs this Broadway musical at the Center for the Arts in Escondido, Nov. 13-15.
Based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic 1869 semi-autobiographical novel, it focuses on the four March sisters – feisty, tomboyish, aspiring author Jo; romantic Meg; pretentious Amy; and kind-hearted Beth – and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord, Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Intertwined with the story of their lives are several recreations of the melodramatic short tales Jo writes in her attic studio.
The novel was brought to life as an exhilarating Broadway musical filled with glorious music, dance and heart in early 2005. The U.S National tour began in San Diego of the same year.
