Iraq History Comes To Life In ‘Fires In Heaven’
How could a poor 8th-century woman living in Iraq survive on her own, much less become a respected saint? The Theatre Inc answers that question with Fires In Heaven, a world premiere play opening Oct. 3.
Orphaned while she was young and sold into slavery, Rabia Al-Adawiyya (717-801) was able to help the poor and live a happy life of inner peace. Her sayings and poetry have their honored place in world literature. What challenges did Rabia face personally? Refusing riches, she shows us all the way to happiness.
This is a free dramatic story based on some true facts about Rabia’s life. It traces her search for both physical and spiritual survival and traces a night with a thief who came to rob her: he is after her body, and she is after his soul. Who will win?
The Theatre Inc is dedicated to the re-imagining and re-birth of Greek classics. In addition to our Greek series, the theatre stages other period classics with a modern twist in an intimate 50-seat theatre in the heart of downtown.
