California Ballet Follows The Adventures of ‘Alice In Wonderland’
The California Ballet follows the White Rabbit in Alice In Wonderland, performing Oct. 3-4 at the Balboa Theatre. This children’s classic is being presented as a complete one-act version.
Charles Bennett’s choreography is set to a collage of selected compositions from composers including Luigi Boccherini, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Kling, Joseph Lanner, Joseph Strauss and Gioacchino Rossini. Costumes and scenery are by Alan Madsen after the original drawings by John Tenniel. The scenery will be complemented with exciting multimedia effects that will enhance the experience of the story.
Charles Bennett’s one-act version of Alice in Wonderland, was originally created for a children’s troupe. California Ballet will use its seasoned dancers to portray the principal characters such as Alice, the White Rabbit, the Red Queen, the Mad Hatter and the March Hare, and use its upper division students to complete the cast of characters like the Queen, King and Jack of Hearts Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Bennett uses dance and dialogue to convey the surreal, imaginative storyline.
