Summer Soundtrack: Top Songs
Every summer, there are a handful of inescapable songs. They follow you everywhere: they’re playing in bars, from Bluetooth speakers down at the beach, and they’re always on the radio. These songs become a summer soundtrack, and even when summer ends we will think of these few sun soaked months every time we hear them. So what are the songs that will forever remind us of Summer ’17?
By now, you’ve probably heard Miley Cyrus’ “Malibu”.
A departure from her wild and crazy days (remember her controversial performance at MTV’s 2013 VMAs?), Malibu is a mellow, innocent summer love song. The song’s opening lines catch the mood of a sweet summer fling: “I never came to the beach or stood by the ocean/ I never sat by the shore under the sun with my feet in the sand/ But you brought me here and I’m happy that you did. ’Cause now I’m as free as birds catching the wind.” The song is showing listeners Miley’s soft side again, and based on its popularity, people seem to be liking this side a lot better.
Another song that will be hard to get away from this summer is Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE”.
The song is witty, catchy, and the beat is perfect for any occasion. his was going to be his first real single since “To Pimp a Butterfly” came out in 2013 and people were debating whether any of his new music would actually live up to the monstrous hype. Here’s to hoping that those skeptics have perished.
“Slide” by Calvin Harris ft. Frank Ocean and Migos.
This collaboration couldn’t be any better and it couldn’t have come at a better time of year. It’s the perfect balance of high energy and easygoing mellow, which means it complements all those summer moods.
You’ll also most likely be hearing “Passionfruit” by Drake pretty much anywhere you go this summer. It’s a great song to dance to and it has a blend of melodic tunes and a good beat. Drake has had a lot of summer hits, and this one is no different.

We hope you’re not forgetting the good tunes this summer!
