MTV U Woodie Award Winners 2009
On Friday evening, December 4th 2009, MTV aired their annual MTV U Woodie Awards in New York City’s Roseland Ballroom. Best Video Woodie of the year winner’s Matt & Kim rolled into the ballroom with a bicycle clan to sound off hit song of 09 “Daylight”. Mid-performance part of the clan took off their shirts and shorts into boy undies, bra’s or boxers to kick off the show.
As steady beer pong tournaments undoubtedly continued in dorm rooms around America the following U Woodie Awards were given out:
Winners of MTV U Woodie Awards
Woodie of the year – Kings of Leon
Don’t we all need somebody? Apparently we need Kings of Leon who took home biggest award of the night, Woodie of the Year 2009.
Best Video Woodie – Matt & Kim “Lessons Learned”
We first caught onto Matt & Kim during their Jimmy Kimmel performance in August with infectious hit song “Daylight” from their second album Grand. San Diego watched them make a bang at Street Scene and even a stellar yet intimate performance at 710 Beach Club just a few weeks ago.
Breaking Woodie – Never Shout Never
Left Field Woodie – Tech N9ne
America’s leading independent artist Tech N9ne is doing it once again winning the left field Woodie! The Entertainer got a chance to speak with the unstoppable and bizarre function of flow Tech N9ne before K.O.D. was released in October.
Performing Woodie – Green Day
Green Day couldn’t make it to the MTV U Awards, but we got a great acceptance video out of the boys, filled with “woodie” jokes and simulations. Nothing new from the oh-so-controversial, punk attitude rockers.
Good Woodie – Jamie Tworkowski
Commendable philanthropist recognition from the MTV U Awards comes in the form of the Good Woodie, this year’s winner Jamie Tworkowski for To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA).
Mission statement:
To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.
College Radio Woodie – KUPS 90.1
Best Music on Campus Woodie – Hotel of the Laughing Tree
Performers included Clipse, The Dead Weather, Death Cab For Cutie, Diplo, Matt & Kim and Passion Pit.
With appearences by 3OH3!, Amber Tamblyn, Asher Roth, David Cross, Erin Kaplan, Friendly Fires, Jamie Tworkowski, Janelle Monae, John Norris, Keena, “Gossip Girl” Leighton Meester, Matt Pinfield, Mary Louise-Parker, Never Shout Never, P.O.S., Pac Div, Pete Wentz, Roxy Olin, Sparks the Rescue, SuChin Pak, Tech N9ne and Zooey Deschanel.
To mention the akward situation of the year would be silly. But we’ll just say that this MTV awards show didn’t involve any arrogant bastards stealing the limelight from teenage country singers.
Characteristic, different, unique and progressive the MTV U Woodie Awards 2009 brought Generation Y the organic hipster, hip hopper and rockers that they were looking for. Can’t wait for next year’s collegiate favorites!
Woodie of the Year nominee’s Asher Roth’s anthem song “I Love College”, oh boy I love college:
