After the recent release of the album, ‘Damn,’ rumor had it that Kendrick Lamar’s set at Coachella would consist of the majority of the new album. However, Lamar only performed a couple of songs from the new album. Instead, he ended up performing a number of collaborations featuring other famous rappers who star in his older songs. Overall, Lamar’s kung fu inspired performance was a mix between the old and new in the best way possible. Lamar clearly left his heart on the stage with this set and Coachella was lucky to have him as a headliner.

Lamar opened with ‘DNA,’ one of our favorites from the new album. After raising the volume and atmosphere of the crowd with this song, he preceded with Element, XXX, Yah, and God. He then closed with ‘Humble,’ which is actually ranked as the country’s #2 song as of current.

For collaborations, Lamar didn’t disappoint. He brought out Travis Scott for ‘Goosebumps,’ leaving the audience in utter goosebumps. He then brought out Schoolboy Q for ‘That Part’ and Future for ‘Mask Off’ for dually exceptional performances.

As the stage transformed from dark to light and the show came to the end, the crowd relentlessly shouted, “one more song!” Sure enough, Lamar came out in full force with a memorable encore of, ‘Love.’ Dressed in an all white kung fu uniform, Lamar looked as though he was about to face off in martial arts. Lamar sang ‘Love’ solo and closed another memorable weekend of Coachella.

Though Lamar’s set didn’t feature as much of ‘Damn’ as we expected and were excited for, his performance was unforgettable. From notable collaborations with some of the best rappers out there, to his “oldies but goodies,” his set was incredible to say the least. Coachella 2017 was one for the books and couldn’t have ended on a better note.
