Guster plays House of Blues Sunday
Guster, an American alternative rock band, will be having a concert at the San Diego House of Blues on Sunday, January 23, 2011. The band is based in Boston and was formed in 1991 while the members attended Tufts University. Over the years, supported by mainstream hits like Barrel of a Gun, Fa Fa, and Amsterdam, the band has enjoyed great popularity as well as a loyal and loving fan base. Their catchy, unique, melodic tunes resonate with listeners and form the basis of their success.
Guster is a special band for more than their music. From their beginning, Guster has cultivated a strong relationship with fans. In the early years, Guster would rely on fans to advertise upcoming shows and to publicize album releases. As a thank-you, Guster would then host small, private concerts as well as send their fan-publicists special CDs. Additionally, before blogs became popular, Guster was active posting “road journals,” stories, and pictures for fans.
Guster is also active in the green movement. In 2004, lead vocalist Adam Gardner founded Reverb, a non profit organization dedicated to greening musicians’ tours and encouraging fans to do the same. Guster leverages their popularity for good in an attempt to make a difference that will last long after Guster is forgotten. Guster’s website summarizes Reverb’s impact, “since its inception, Adam and Reverb have helped transform the touring practices of over 100 major tours including Dave Matthews Band, John Legend, Jack Johnson, Arcade Fire, Drake, John Mayer, Paramore, Coldplay, Phish, Sheryl Crow, Maroon 5 and many others. To date, Reverb has reduced over 190 million pounds of green house gasses, fueled over 500,000 gallons of sustainable biodiesel in touring fleets, hosted over 2,000 environmental groups in the Eco-Village and have reached over 13 million fans at concerts.”
You do not need to be a fan to enjoy what Guster has to offer or how Guster is seeking to improve our world. But if you are free this Sunday night, give Guster a look and a listen; Either Way, it will certainly leave you Happier.
