Deadmau5 and The H.O.B Experience
On November 1st, 2009 Deadmau5 packed House of Blues with a sold out, highly anticipated show. On the eve of West Coast legend Snoop Dogg’s performance, tomorrow November 20th, 2009 at the same venue, we wanted to share the experience one can expect with a powerful performer in an intimate setting such as House of Blues, San Diego.
With turn table extraordinaire Joel Zimmerman, better known as Deadmau5 on stage the feeling inside the venue was electric and probably one of the most intense shows I have ever been to.
For those that aren’t familiar with the phenomenon that Deadmau5 is, he’s much more than just a DJ. In fact it is reported that he frowns at the idea of being perceived as your typical DJ. Deadmau5 is the new age in fame for dance music.
Over the past 18 months he has become a household name in the dance music industry, and the number one selling artist on Beatport; which is the world’s leading online dance music store. Quite a feat for a 28 year old who is up against players who have been in the game for over a decade.
When Deadmau5’s tour for album LACK OF A BETTER NAME stopped in San Diego you could find a mixed crowd of scenesters, hipsters and everything in between at his show. People inched towards the stage at a rapid pace to get the Deadmau5 experience. Vertical lighted beams similar to the style seen on Deadmau5.com surrounded the stage and visualized the booming beats.
The famous “dead mouse” head that Deadmau5 wears sat on the side of the table smiling into the crowd. Another silver “dead mouse” head was making its rounds in the crowd, being worn for picture-ops for the fans! The dedicated fans of Deadmau5 had that intensified as he put the mouse head on periodically during his set. You could feel the gratitude of getting this concert experience of a lifetime.
Everyone in the crowd was dancing, jumping and enjoying the night to the beat of their own drum. Some odd characters came out that night, including girls dressed as “dead mouse.” It was a spectators dream with folks having their own dance parties amongst friends in the crowd.
As mentioned, House of Blues was packed. People lined the streets trying to get their ticket to get in. Lucky for them the set lasted over two hours as Deadmau5 kept going, and going and going…
