Christmas songs for the holiday season
As we wind down closer and closer to Christmas, it is a time to fill the air with the spirit of the season. What better way to bring everyone together than with Christmas songs. With family and friends, Christmas songs can warm the heart and bring cheer into every place it occupies. People can’t help but smile when the sound of ‘Jingle Bells’ or ‘Frosty the Snowman’ plays in the background of a store, holiday party or even in the car.
Here are my top picks for classic Christmas songs to put everyone in the mood this holiday season:
–Jingle Bells: This is one of my favorite songs because it is one of the very first Christmas songs we learn as children. The lyrics are simple and it reminds me wearing a green elf hat made of construction paper in my 1st grade holiday play. Plus who can forget the variations, “Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg…”
–Bells Will Be Ringing: This song is for anyone making their way home for Christmas. For some it’s a long and difficult journey to make it home, but when they walk through that front door, “Bells will be ringing, the glad glad news…” It makes the holidays feel more special when it reminds you of the family that is coming home for the holidays.
–Deck the Halls: Another simple and classic holiday song. Something for kids to learn easily and for some reason you can’t help but be cheery while singing, “Fa la la la la, la la la la.” This songs always sparks goofy grins of happiness and life.
–Frosty the Snowman: Who doesn’t love Frosty? Even though it’s a one in a million chance we’ll have snow in San Diego, Frosty always puts me in the wintery season setting. Makes me just want to start crushing ice from my freezer just to build him.
–Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas: Judy Garland singing this song just warms the heart to no end. It gives reflection on the meaning of Christmas, “Through the years we all will be together if the Fates allow, hang a shining star on the highest bough…” This song will forever be a timeless classic
–I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus– This song brings out the innocence of children in the holiday spirit. I think it’s great when children still believe in Santa because it adds to the whole holiday season. How awesome is it when a child gets excited that Santa Claus is coming?
–Mr. Grinch– Not everyone will be in the holiday spirit and I think this song sums all that up. I’m sure everyone knows someone who isn’t all cheery about the holiday. Plus Jim Carrey plays the best Grinch. It’s a Christmas song for those who aren’t the Christmas song type of people.
–Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer– Even if you haven’t song this song in years, just hear, “You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donder and Blitzen, but do you recall
the most famous reindeer of all?” and you’ll be back in tune. Plus all the variations we added as kids keep this song a classic.
–The Chipmunk Song– Even though their high squeaky voices would be annoying in a normal setting, The Chipmunk song is great from childhood to adult hood, “Okay, Alvin? Alvin? ALVIN!-OKAY!!!” Who doesn’t remember watching the Chipmunks as kids?
