Amy Grant releases Christmas album, Tennessee Christmas

Amy Grant, six-time Grammy winning recording artist, sat down recently with E & L TV to discuss her first all-new Christmas album in nearly 20 years. The singer’s newest album, Tennessee Christmas, is already one of the top holiday releases aiming to bring everyone a sense of peace during the upcoming holiday season, while addressing the reality that for some folks, Christmas is a difficult time. Grant hopes the album also reaches out to those who don’t always have happy holidays, to let them know they are not alone.

The album hits on a combination of heartfelt originals and Amy’s own spin on Yuletide classics. Featuring songs like “White Christmas,” “Joy to the World” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” Grant teams up with her iconic husband, Vince Gill, as well as well-known recording artists Michael W. Smith and Jordan Smith to create, in our opinion, one of the best Christmas albums of the year.

Early in her career, Grant struggled at expanding into the pop music sphere because she was so identified as being a Christian music artist. In 1991 her song “Baby Baby”, which was written about Grant’s daughter, became a pop hit and received several Grammy nominations for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Grant released several other songs that were catchy pop songs mixed with spiritual verses, leading to a widening of her audience.

In 1999, Grant’s love life was shaken up when she filed for divorce from her then-husband Gary Chapman. Within one year she was married to famous country singer-songwriter, Vince Gill. Just two years after marrying Gill, Grant decided to return to her roots with the release of an album titled “Legacy…Hymms and Faith.” The album was a mixture of Christianity, Vince Gill-influenced work, and pop music. The album also celebrated her 25th anniversary in the music industry. Grant was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2003 by the Gospel Music Association. Now, nearly 13 years after, the beloved songwriter is set to release Tennessee Christmas. The album showcases Amy’s vocals with intimate arrangements and personal memories of the holiday season. This season, Grant will embark on a west coast Christmas tour with husband Vince Gill.
