Humphreys summer concerts for 2014
Once again, Humphreys Concerts by the Bay is offering an eclectic, energetic collection of shows this summer. Below are some of the highlights. For the complete lineup and to order tickets go here.
Sun, May 18 7:30pm Gregg Allman with special guest Brigitte DeMeyer: Classic hits (“Midnight Rider”, The Whipping Post”, “Dreams” and “Revival”) along with solo hits (“I’m No Angel”, “Anything Goes”) with covers of blues, R&B and soul classics.
Tue, Jun 17 7:30pm Steve Winwood: He has been entertaining fans for more than four decades since his days with The Spencer Davis Group (“I’m a Man”, “Gimme Some Lovin'”), Traffic (“Low Spark of High Heeled Boys”), Blind Faith (“Sea of Joy”) and solo “Higher Love”.
Sun, Jun 29 7:30pm Sarah McLachlan: Sarah is an eight-time Juno Award winner (Canada) and a three-time Grammy Award winner. In addition to her personal artistic efforts, she founded the Lilith Fair tour showcasing female musicians which raised over $7 million for local and national charities over its 3 years and in 2002 founded her non-profit organization the Sarah McLachlan School of Music.
Tue, Jul 01 7:30pm Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell: The Grammy Award-winning collaborators will bring their celebrated live show to Humphreys Concerts on July 1, just ahead of their original bluegrass musical play “Bright Star” debut at the Old Globe.
Fri, Jul 11 8:00pm Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band: The “funny Beatle” has put together his 14th All Starr line up for his 10th appearance at Humphreys. With Ringo will be: Steve Lukather (Toto), Gregg Rolie (Santana & Journey), Richard Page (Mr, Mister), Todd Rundgren and Gregg Bissonette. All-time hits such as “It Don’t Come Easy”, “Photograph”, “Little Help From My Friends”, “Yellow Submarine”, “Rosanna”, “Hello It’s Me” and “Black Magic Woman” will delight all.
Thu, Jul 17 6:30pm Happy Together 30th Anniversary Tour with The Turtles feat. Flo & Eddie, Chuck Negron, Mark Farner, Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels and Gary Lewis & The Playboys: Together again for another nostalgic trip celebrating the biggest hits of the sixties and seventies, featuring: Flo and Eddie of The Turtles (“Happy Together”), Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night (“One,” “Joy to the World”), Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels (“Devil With a Blue Dress On”), Mark Farner, formerly of Grand Funk Railroad (“We’re an American Band,” “I’m Your Captain”), and Gary Lewis & The Playboys (“This Diamond Ring”).
Sun, Jul 20 7:30pm Jewel (solo acoustic): Jewel is an acclaimed American singer, songwriter, actress, poet, painter, philanthropist who has spent a lot of her time in San Diego. She makes her 10th appearance on our stage.
Tue, Jul 22 7:30pm Doobie Brothers: Original members Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston, and 30-year member John McFee are on hand as the Doobies make their 15th summertime appearance at Humphreys.
Mon, Aug 18 7:30pm An Evening with YES: Founded in 1968 by Chris Squire and Jon Anderson, Grammy-award winning recording artists YES have created some of the most important and influential music in rock history, such as iconic pieces “Roundabout”, “Close to the Edge”, “I’ve Seen All Good People”, “Owner of a Lonely Heart”, and countless others. Having sold over 50 million records over its forty-six-year career, YES continues creating masterful music that inspires fans and musicians from around the world.
Wed, Aug 27 7:30pm B.B. King: At age 88, he is still light on his feet, singing and playing the blues with relentless passion, still the reigning “King of Blues”.
Fri, Sep 12 8:00pm Chicago: the legendary rock and roll band with horns, they are the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums in six decades.
Sun, Oct 05 7:30pm The Beach Boys: California classics like “Surfin USA”, “I Get Around”, “Help Me Rhonda”, “California Girls” and “Good Vibrations” have solidified the bands spot in the surf of Rock and Roll history.
Sat, Oct 11 7:00pm Tower of Power/Average White Band: Since 1968, Tower of Power has delivered their unique brand of “Urban Soul Music”. Co-headlining will be Average White Band, Scottish soul brothers famous for “Pickin’ Up The Pieces” and “Cut The Cake” and widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands.
